If you would like even more inspiration for your Mid-Winter Christmas Feast then pick up a copy of Tamasin's Kitchen Bible by Tamasin Day-Lewis.
Christmas is covered in a dedicated chapter with recipes and a timetable. From the planning a month or so out and the making of the pudding to the count down to the Big Meal itself, you are in very good hands.
Of course there is much, much more to this book than just how to have a low stress Christmas.
Actually, unsurprisingly with its biblical title, pretty much most aspects of cookery are covered : simple things that children can make, basic skills, classic dishes and more.
I reach for this book most weeks at some point whether it is for inspiration, a recipe or for something to read with a cup of tea.

Like you, Emma, this book is almost always within my grasp. It is a veritable source of inspiration. My kitchen life has improved immeasurably because of it; I have tried and adapted many recipes from this book, some of which I have reported on my blog. I whole-heartedly recommend it to any cook, whether a beginning or an experienced one.

Shaun, Have you got any of her other books? I am quite tempted by her Weekend food.

Emma - I have them all but "West of Ireland Cooking". Truthfully, "Weekend Food" - a television show tie-in - is the one I would get last because it is mostly a compilation of her previous four books with the smallest of modifications and a couple of new recipes. "Simply The Best" is my favourite cookery book of hers, interspersing seasonal recipes with her articles from The Daily Telegraph. You can't really go wrong with her books, for she is very knowledgable, creative (try "Good-Tempered Food"), and inspirational. If you want to start with a more focussed book, try "The Art of the Tart" or "Tarts with Tops On" (which is about pies), for they are endlessly inspirational and would provide great comfort in the midst of a chilly NZ Winter.

Thanks Shaun, I think I will put Simply the Best at the top of the list now . . . ! Good tips, a real recommendation.
